The RX 6800 is primarily quieter with UV
AMD already uses a standard voltage of 1.025 volts for the Radeon RX 6800, but even here there is still a lot of potential. Even with up to 0.9 volts, the test copy still runs without problems. Unlike the larger model, the Radeon RX 6800 is only slowed down in a few games and then only slightly by the power consumption. Therefore, the clock rate in Doom Eternal only increases by 30 to 50 MHz, but not at all in some games. There is no performance boost, in the best case there is 2 percent more FPS, but mostly the frame rate remains the same.
There are changes in other measurements. With undervolting, the fans rotate 150 revolutions slower. And even if the 1,550 revolutions do not quite come close to the very good level of the Radeon RX 6800 XT, the smaller model becomes audibly quieter and is much less noticeable when playing. In one breath, the GPU temperature turns out to be 64 instead of 68 degrees cooler, the junction temperature even drops by 8 degrees Celsius. Undervolting also has an impact on power consumption. This is reduced by a good 45 watts, the Radeon RX 6800 then only needs around 183 watts when gaming.
