So this just happened. AMD called me about a week ago and told me they have something to bring over to the studio to show. Their new Vega-based Pro 2TB SSG ripping through 8K R3D's on a rather anemic lightweight 4-core host computer.
My reply was a rather polite version of : “ AMD?, Really?... Thank you for the bullshit, and have a nice day".
Boy was I wrong. They came, I saw, and they kicked some ass.
Working natively inside Adobe, the SSG caches full raster 8K R3D's into it's massive on-card 2TB storage and frame-throws them out in realtime. And this is just their alpha build.
I had
Dan Duran do a little side by side test last night against a Titan XP on a throw-away 4-core 16gb system and the results are insane. Take a note on system resources in the video.
The new SSG, after it gobbles up all the R3D's into it’s own cache, is really doing all of the heavy lifting.
Look out Nvidia... it's pretty clear AMD has returned to the party in a very big way, and it is very clear that they are quite done fucking around. #AMD #AMDSSG #RADEON
