There a discrepancy in the recorded step count data between my wearable and other pedometers
Please see below four reasons of why this could be happening:
The step count displayed on your wearable is more or less than that displayed on your phone
Your wearable and phone record your step count based on an
accelerometer, which is used to identify whether steps have been made based on acceleration in different directions. When your phone is placed in your pocket or your bag the accelerometer equipped in your phone will detect your step count based on the change of the gravity acceleration in the
vertical direction. Your wearable is worn on your wrist and will detect your step count based on your
wrist movement and changes to the gravity acceleration on the X, Y, and Z axes. In this scenario, the wearable can normally offer you more scientific and accurate results.
The step count displayed on your wearable is less than that displayed on other pedometers
Huawei and Honor wearable devices have optimised the step count algorithm to minimise the chances of the wearable
mistakenly recording data in some scenarios when you move your arms such as when you are working, eating, or brushing your teeth. If the algorithm in other pedometers has not been optimised, the step count will be more than that displayed on Huawei or Honor wearable.
Your wearable may not record your step count if you walk a few steps then suddenly stop walking.
The step count displayed on your wearable is more than that displayed on other pedometers
People often move their arms or bodies a lot during the day. When the movements are made over the course of a day, the data collected by sensors is similar to the data collected when walking, so the wearable device may mistakenly consider that you are walking and record the movement as steps.
The step count displayed on your wearable is different from that displayed in the Huawei Health app.
The Huawei Health app takes your step counts from all these sources and displays the composite result. In other words, the step count displayed in the Huawei Health app is a combination of the step count on your phone and wearable devices.
