Compared to its direct predecessor, the Intel Celeron J3455, the Intel Celeron J4105 successor expects 45% faster in Cinebench R15 (263 cb vs. 180 cb). The difference is even more pronounced than the leap from Braswell to Apollo Lake and comes dangerously close to the larger Intel Core-i architecture.
All new processors from Intel and AMD support the AES-Ni, which means that many encryption functions are executed directly in hardware. This significantly increases the speed of encryption and decryption. At 1.8 gigabytes per second, the Intel Celeron J4105 is fast enough and can encrypt data with Truecrypt about 40% faster than its predecessor.
In the benchmark of the 7-Zip (v18.1 64bit) package, the Intel Celeron J4105 achieves a total score of 8435 MIPS, which is about half that of a modern 8-thread ULV processor, such as the Intel Core i5-8250U reached (!).
The significant increase in speed of Gemini Lake, however, stops in the internal Gen9LP graphics unit. It uses the current Gen10 display controller as well as the larger Kaby-Lake processors, which only has a minor update in terms of computing power to the Gen9 graphics unit of its predecessor and 10% (21.2 to 19.3 fps in the CB R15 OpenGL test ) is only slightly faster. For more demanding games, the Intel Celeron J4105 is still not armed.
After all, the graphics unit has no problem to decode all modern codecs such as HEVC (h265) or Google's VP8 / 9 in 8 and 10bit. If required, three monitors can be connected simultaneously. The Intel UHD Graphics 600 has 12 processing units, which can be clocked up to 0.75 GHz.
Regarding the HDR playback of Netflix and YouTube material under Windows 10, we can currently not say anything. In the test, both did not work with the current Intel graphics driver yet. HDR was only released at the end of last year for the internal Intel graphics and is among others supported by all Core i processors of the 7th (Kaby Lake) and 8th generation (Coffee Lake) by the internal UHD 620 and UHD 630 graphics. Since the used Gen 10 display controller of these processors is theoretically identical to that of the UHD 600/605, Intel HDR or HDCP 2.2 could also unlock for the Gemini Lake processors.
We determined the maximum utilization in a parallel benchmark run of the Cinebech R15 multi-core and Furmark GPU stress test. It's amazing that Intel has been able to significantly increase the efficiency of the processor, so the system is still 20% more economical than its predecessor on Apollo Lake basis despite 45% more power under full load.
Intel Celeron J4105 ASRock here the Intel Pentium Silver J5005, which counts in the basic clock identically with maximally 1.5 GHz, the Turbo however up to 2.8 GHz (0.3 GHz higher) can clock. In addition, the internal graphics unit (Intel UHD Graphics 605) has 6 processors more (18 to 12) and can clock them up to 0.8 GHz instead of 0.75 GHz.
Experience has shown that the smaller, tested version, the price-performance ratio is better than the larger brother. The 0.3 GHz higher Turbo clock and the stronger graphics allow a performance increase of about 10-12 percent.
