Google poisti AnTuTu -testiohjelman Play Kaupasta

Google on poistanut io-techin testiartikkeleissakin käytetyn AnTuTu -testiohjelman Play Kaupasta. Miljoonia latauskertoja keränneen älypuhelinten suorituskyvyn mittaamisen käytetyn sovelluksen poistamisen syyt eivät ole täysin selvillä mutta sen oletetaan johtuvan AnTuTun kytköksistä Cheetah Mobileen. Google on viime aikoina poistanut useita Cheetah Mobilen kehittämiä sovelluksia Play Kaupasta haitallisten ja häiritsevien mainosten vuoksi. AnTuTun AndroidPolicelle antaman lausunnon mukaan kyse on kuitenkin väärinkäsityksestä ja yritys vakuuttaa olevansa itsenäinen toimija yhteisistä sijoittajista huolimatta Cheetah Mobilen kanssa.

XDA oli selvittänyt, että AnTuTu on ainakin aiemmin jakanut käyttäjätietoja Cheetah Mobilen kanssa.

• AnTuTu Benchmark removed from the Google Play Store

The exact reason behind this expulsion is unclear but Android Police points out that AnTuTu’s association with Cheetah Mobile could be the culprit. In an archived version of AnTuTu’s Privacy Policy, Cheetah Mobile has been called the “data controller with regard to any personal information collected from users.” This Privacy Policy has been dated to October 10th, 2018, but the webpage was last cached as recently as on December 13th, 2019. As per the same document, “A “data controller” is an entity that determines the purposes for which and the manner in which any personal information is processed.”

As of December 26th, 2019, the Privacy Policy was updated and Cheetah Mobile was replaced with “Antutu Technology Co.,Ltd.” In contrast, however, the Privacy Policy button in AnTuTu Benchmark’s Play Store (latest archived) listing still directs to a webpage on Cheetah Mobile’s website.

Cheetah Mobile on tunnettu epäeettisestä toiminnasta ja käyttäjätietojen keräämisestä. Yritys luokittelee itsensä "data companyksi", jonka tarkoituksena on tarjota mainostajille kattavia käyttäjäprofiileja.

Cheetah Mobile esimerkiksi huijaa käyttäjiä asentamaan sovelluksia valheellisilla mainosbannereilla, jotka väittävät puhelimen olevan saastunut. Todellisuudessa tarkoituksena on vain saada käyttäjä asentamaan Clean Masterin kaltainen haitallinen sovellus ja antamaan sovellukselle käyttöoikeudet tietojen keräämiseen. Jos AnTuTu on sekaantunut Cheetah Mobileen, niin siitä kannattaa pysyä kaukana.

Despite its popularity, ads promoting Clean Master manipulate Android users with deceptive tactics when browsing websites within the app’s advertising framework.

Ferenc László Nagy of SophosLabs Hungary has captured some pop-up ads that lead to Clean Master, warning you that your device has been infected with a virus...

...Only if you press “OK” the ad redirects you to the download of the Clean Master app, and does not “remove” the (fake) virus as the ad claims.

According to the website Stayprotected.com, several other ads promoting Clean Master resemble warning screens informing you that your battery is running low due to “potential viruses” on the device.
