AMD toi FreeSync 2 -tuen Samsungin vuoden 2018 QLED-televisioihin

AMD on julkaissut tiedotteen, jonka mukaan Samsungin tämän vuoden QLED-mallisto 55-tuumaisesta 85-tuumaiseen on saanut FreeSync 2 -tuen.
Samsungin QLED-mallisto tarjoaa 4K-resoluution, maksimissaan 1000 nitin kirkkauden ja HDR-tuen.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — June 5, 2018 — AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) and Samsung today announced support for Radeon FreeSync™ technology in the new Samsung QLED 55” to 82” TV range, bringing the ultimate, ultrawide 4K gaming experience to an entirely new format – big screen TVs. Samsung is the first company to utilize industry-leading Radeon FreeSync adaptive refresh technology for stutter-free gaming inside a consumer television set. With High Dynamic Range (HDR) [2] support up to 1000nits and stunning picture quality, Samsung’s QLED displays allow gamers to experience strikingly high refresh rates and low latency on TVs at a variety of price points and screen sizes ranging from 55” to 82” creating a single display for all their home entertainment needs.

Over the past three years, Radeon FreeSync™ technology has driven widespread adoption and become the industry’s most selected solution for smooth gaming. Earlier this year, AMD expanded the ecosystem by propelling tear-free gameplay beyond the PC with the launch of support for FreeSync™ technology in Microsoft’s Xbox One S and Xbox One X consoles in early March.[3] With more than 250 compatible displays offered by more than 20 partners, this is more than double the availability of competing technology.

Eikös näissä ollut jotain aika rajuja rajoitteita, että Freesync toimisi vain 1080p-resoluutiolla, vai onko tästä päästy jo ylitse? Mieluummin 1440p@120 FPS ilman, kuin 1080p@60 FPS Freesyncillä. Noista QLED:stä osa ellei kaikki tukee näet tuota ensimmäistä, kuin myös monet noin tonnista alkavat Sonyn televisiot.

PC-pelaaja valitsee melko varmasti korkeamman virkistystaajuuden ja resoluution, mutta Xbox-pelaajillehan tämä päivitys tällaisenaan on todella tervetullut.

Eikös näissä ollut jotain aika rajuja rajoitteita, että Freesync toimisi vain 1080p-resoluutiolla, vai onko tästä päästy jo ylitse? Mieluummin 1440p@120 FPS ilman, kuin 1080p@60 FPS Freesyncillä. Noista QLED:stä osa ellei kaikki tukee näet tuota ensimmäistä, kuin myös monet noin tonnista alkavat Sonyn televisiot.

PC-pelaaja valitsee melko varmasti korkeamman virkistystaajuuden ja resoluution, mutta Xbox-pelaajillehan tämä päivitys tällaisenaan on todella tervetullut.

Okei, nyt googlasin asiaa paremmin ja tämä uutinen hämäsi mielessä, jossa sanottiin:

"The FreeSync support comes at a price, though: it limits the resolution of those TVs to 1080p, and you might find some issues with brightness."

Tässä uudemmassa varmaankin samaa päivitystä käsittelevässä artikkelissa kuin Tekkikin, lukee näin:

"Digital Trends reached out to Samsung to confirm supported resolutions and refresh rates. The affected TVs supported 1,920 x 1,080 at 120Hz, 2,560 x 1,440p at 120Hz, and 3,840 x 2,160 at 60Hz.

Samsung does warn that the mode isn’t necessarily perfect and there may be some noticeable discrepancies with brightness during FreeSync operation due to frequency variation.

Siispä oikein loistava päivitys, joka tekee myös PC-pelaajille QLED:it oikeastaan suoraan parhaaksi vaihtoehdoksi, jos TV:stä pelaa. Olisi silti hyvä tietää lisää tuosta kirkkausongelmasta.

EDIT. Sellaista vielä mietin että tuliko tuki tähän televisioon, joka on kooltaan 49". Aika hölmöä olisi jättää päivittämättä.

Vielä kun löytyisi AMD näytönohjain, jossa TDP olisi alle 200W, 4k pelit pyörisi ainakin 60fps ja hinta/suorituskyky olisi samalla tasolla kuin Nvidialla.

Aina joutuu odottamaan seuraavaa AMD tuotetta. FreeSync näyttö on odottanut näytönohjainta kohta 3 vuotta.

Vielä kun löytyisi AMD näytönohjain, jossa TDP olisi alle 200W, 4k pelit pyörisi ainakin 60fps ja hinta/suorituskyky olisi samalla tasolla kuin Nvidialla.

Aina joutuu odottamaan seuraavaa AMD tuotetta. FreeSync näyttö on odottanut näytönohjainta kohta 3 vuotta.

Ennemminkin pitäisi olla vihainen Nvidialle joka ihan puhdasta vittumaisuuttaan ei laita freesynciä toimintaan heidän korteillaan.

Kyllä, Samsungilla alkaen NU8005 mallista, mutta pieniä rajoitteita löytyy:

Samsung NU8000 Review (UN49NU8000, UN55NU8000, UN65NU8000, UN75NU8000, UN82NU8000)
New this year is 1080p @ 120 Hz @ 4:4:4 support, which is useful when using the TV as a PC monitor. 1440p @ 120 Hz is also supported, but 4:4:4 color isn't displayed properly. Oddly enough, 1440p @ 60 Hz isn't supported, not even when using a custom resolution from a PC.
